Parkinson's Network Providing Support Services in Leicestershire & Rutland

This website has been created for and by people living with Parkinson's in Leicestershire and Rutland. The local groups which form the hub of the network are all run by volunteers and supported by Parkinson's UK staff.

We aim to provide signposts for those people living with Parkinson's, their family, and friends to activities across both counties as well as information and new initiatives  on  Parkinson's.

The network provides alongside this  website a quarterly Newsletter.

WORLD PARKINSON'S DAY 11 APRIL 2024

We know how effective and persuasive petitions can be so if you agree with the charter’s principles please sign the petition and please PLEASE urge family and friends, healthcare professionals, everyone who cares about Parkinson’s, to sign it as well.

More information is available on Parkinson's UK's website, and this is a direct link to the Parky Charter petition. Please sign if you agree with the Principles, and share, far and wide.

A message from The Movers and Shakers

We know many of you listen to the Award-winning Movers & Shakers podcast featuring Rory Cellan-Jones, Gillian Lacey-Solymar, Mark Mardell, Paul Mayhew-Archer, Nick Mostyn and Jeremy Paxman.

Although we manage to joke about the condition, Parkinson’s is not an easy illness to tolerate and we, the Movers and Shakers, have been both moved and shaken by what our listeners have told us. As a result we have come up with a Parky Charter - a list of things all Parkies should have a right to expect from a functioning health service and a caring care system. We now have the chance to take the Charter to 10 Downing Street on World Parkinson’s Day (April 11th).

Parkinson’s UK, Cure Parkinson’s and Spotlight Young Onset PD, support the principles of the Charter and are promoting it wherever they can. We also know more now how effective and persuasive petitions can be so if you agree with the Charter’s principles please sign the attached petition and please, please urge family and friends, healthcare professionals, everyone who cares about Parkinson’s, to sign it as well. The more people who can sign it before World Parkinson’s Day the impact it will have.

Thankyou

Paul Mayhew-Archer

WALK FOR PARKINSON'S IS BACK FOR 2024 - OUR LOCAL WALK

WALK FOR PARKINSON'S THIS YEAR IS AT CHATSWORTH HOUSE 30 JUNE 2024

Our Walk for Parkinson's series is back for 2024. We will be at Chatsworth House on Sunday 30th June. There will be two routes available for our wonderful walkers, a 2.5 mile accessible route and a more challenging 6 mile route. All funds raised from the walk series will go towards our vital research into new treatments and a cure.

How can groups get involved? Last year we had just over 250 walkers. Many of whom are new to Parkinson's UK. You are welcome to attend the walk as a group to promote what you do - this may encourage new members. Another way you can support the walk is by promoting the walk. Please let family and friends know about the walk. It really is a wonderful day out for all the family. Under 18s are FREE and adults are £12. For this you get entry to the walk, a t-shirt and medal. Should anyone wish to volunteer at the walk we also have some fantastic opportunities to be part of our awesome events team on the day.
