There’s no better time than to start exercising than the New Year! I know that exercise for a lot of Parkinson’s patients can be intimidating at first but taking the first step to approach an exercise group or physiotherapist is often the hardest step.
The exercise classes run by myself, Jane Hargraves and Sue Forrest cater for a wide range of abilities and although the exercise regime for each person may be different we have fun together and work as a team.
We run free trial sessions. Do come and speak to the physiotherapists who run the sessions. JD Hylton

2019 was a great year for the David LLoyd groups, both groups were fully subscribed all year. The social and support side of the group is of upmost importance in the wellbeing of all our members, enhancing their ability to exercise and also their general wellbeing until the next class.
We also take a few minutes when required to discuss an aspect of Parkinson’s that might be causing concern. This can be new drugs, difficulty accessing medication, being able to get in touch with a Consultant or Specialist Nurse, difficulty with sleeping, anxiety, diet etc.
We didn't have any days off over the Christmas period, and as you can see from the photo of Phil, we enjoyed some Christmas games. This year we are planning another breakfast trip and walk in Bradgate Park, a fund raising event and, as ever, will end the year with the Christmas meal, swimming gala and prize giving.

We all know the importance of exercise in Parkinson’s and the Ashby groups provide not just exercise but a great sense of camaraderie, which group members describe as being as beneficial as the exercises! This year the Ashby Leisure Centre had a complete refurbishment and now we are in a brand-new studio and enjoying the spacious facilities.
In April we took part in the Parkinson’s UK Calke Park Walk and raised £300.00. We plan to do the same walk again, and hope for good weather – it was a bit chilly last year! Again this year we had a party before Christmas which included a buffet and games (with prizes!) and was enjoyed by all.
We welcome any new members – why not make 2020 your year to start taking control through exercise? Sue Forrest
