This page tells you about the work of Parkinson's the national charity and the local activity groups and branches which are under the Parkinson's umbrella but do not receive funding from the national charity. We would ask you to support us in whatever way you can.
ACTIVITIES FOR THE UK CHARITY AND THE LOCAL SUPPORT GROUPS
Having just gone through World Parkinson’s Awareness Day it feels appropriate detail the different functions of Head Office of the UK Charity, and the local groups and explain how you can support us
1. You can support directly to the national charity.
2. You can support directly to the local support groups.
3. You can share the gift between both national and local.

Parkinson’s UK - What the national charity does
The national charity raises funds to further it’s aims with the main one being the funding of research to find a cure.
It also funds work on
Symptom control.
Network support for local groups.
Campaigns.
Support for people with Parkinson’s including:
National Helpline
Publications on Parkinson’s topics
Parkinson’s advisors
Parkinson’s nurses – startup funding those roles in the NHS.
Education and training for professionals working with people with Parkinson’s.
Local support groups - What they do
The network of local groups are supported in their function by Parkinson's UK staff members. They are all staffed by volunteers who give up their time to provide activities for people in their local area.
They organise:
Fundraising events for their own activities and for Parkinson’s UK
Monthly mutual support meetings
Support local members with information and resources that are provided centrally.
Local exercise activity classes
Social engagements and trips and out
Provide access to speakers on various topics
Promote Parkinson’s UK membership
Awareness/symposium days for people with Parkinson’s
